SYLLABI AND CURRICULUM

Pon Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School follows English as the medium of instruction and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). School syllabus is built on a rich foundation of reading, writing and arithmetic. That foundation is then further strengthened with History, Science, Music, Geography and the Arts.

The curriculum is built on the principle of subject integration. This reinforced study across subject areas develops critical thinking and higher order thinking skills. The children are guided through each theme with a multi pronged approach.


SYLLABUS AND STANDARDS

TEACHING METHODOLOGY IN THE SCHOOL

  • Use of themes & projects to develop higher order thinking and stimulate creativity.
  • Large number of co-curricular activities that provide wide and varied exposure.

2nd LANGUAGE OFFERED

  • Std I to Std X - Tamil.

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION

  • Hindi is  given as 3rd language.
  • Those who take particular language as 2nd language in Std I are advised to maintain the same as 2nd language up to Std X for continuity.

PRE PRIMARY

To foster a strong foundation in the children in the key elements of learning, we follow the EZ Vidya curriculum completely aligned to the 21st century skills framework defined by Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), USA, the world’s leading advocacy organization on 21st Century Skills.


PRIMARY

We follow the NCERT syllabus based textbook, intended to create a learning environment that delivers quality holistic education to suit the 21st century needs. It aims to facilitate well-rounded development that supports cultivation of a healthy thought process and enhance the learners cognitive abilities. The syllabus for the series is designed to meet the requirements of the latest National Curriculum Framework.

Four Facets of Thinking- Chrysalis’ trademark feature which encourages every child to Look Deep, Look Within, Look Beyond and Look Around making creative and critical thinking visible in classrooms.


SECONDARY

Diligently chosen text books in line with CBSE syllabus is being followed for grades VI to VIII. In order to uphold vision of locally rooted and globally competent education, we have included various innovative E-technologies in our curriculum. We have introduced the latest Digital Transformation  Audio-Visual facilities enable our students understand and strengthen concepts in various subjects. Audio and video tools are used by teachers through the interactive boards to enhance the learning process.

For grades IX to XII, NCERT books are followed.


SENIOR SECONDARY

Pon Vidya Mandir Sr.Sec. School has earned the prestigious upgradation of senior secondary eduction. NCERT Text books would be followed in Senior Secondary grades. The academic stream offered in senior secondary are

  • Mathematics Stream: English, Physics Chemistry, Math, Computer Science.
  • Science Stream: English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science.




SCHOOL TERM

Scholastic areas include Formative and Summative assessments. Each term will have two formative assessments and one summative assessment.

Co-scholastic activities include Literary, aesthetic skills, performing skills and clubs. Health and Physical Education will also form an integral part of this assessment.

Co-Scholastic areas will be assessed on life skills, attitudes and values.

The Session will be spread over 2 terms, one from April to September and second from October to March.

Assessment will be both Formative and Summative. The weightage is given below:

  • Sub Enrichment 5 marks at term-end

Yearly Exam
Written exam for 80 marks with syllabus coverage as below:
* Class VI: 10% of 1st term covering significant topics + entire syllabus of 2nd term
* Class VII: 20% of 1st term covering significant topics + entire syllabus of 2nd term
* Class VIII: 30%of 1st term covering significant topics + entire syllabus of 2nd term

UNIFORM

LKG & UKG

  • Uniform on Wednesdays and whenever required.
  • Boys should wear dark grey shorts, checked grey collared shirts with half sleeve and sandals.
  • Girls should wear Uniform frocks and sandals.
  • Sports Uniform must be worn on Mondays and Thursdays.

GRADES I - V

  • Uniform on all days.
  • Boys should wear dark grey shorts, checked grey collared shirts with half-sleeve, black shoes, navy blue socks and black belts with ordinary buckle.
  • Girls should wear dark grey shirts, checked grey short shirts with half-sleeve, black shoes and navy blue socks.
  • School Uniform must be worn on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Sports Uniform must be worn on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

GRADES VI-XII

  • Uniform on all days.
  • Boys should wear dark grey pants, checked grey collared shirts with half-sleeve, black shoes, navy blue socks and black belts with ordinary buckle on all days.
  • Girls should wear dark grey pants, checked grey kurthas with half-sleeve, overcoat, black shoes and navy blue socks on all days.
  • School Uniform must be worn on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Sports Uniform must be worn on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
