Major Events of the Year
Pujya Gurudev’s Janmadinam
Pujya Gurudev’s Janmadinam is celebrated every year on 8th of May. On this day paduka pooja is performed. All the teachers participate in the celebration.
To expose the students to the intricacies involved in our parliamentary democratic system, students elect their own prefect board through election every academic year. The election procedure is an exact simulation of our general polls which involves filing of nomination by the contestants, release of manifesto by contestants, vigorous campaigning, registering of ballot by the students, counting and result declaration, investiture ceremony etc.
In order to respect and honour the gurus, Gurupurnima is celebrated. On this day the great gurus are worshipped and poojas are performed. Bhajans are sung. All the students and teachers participate in the celebration.
Patriotism is a vital virtue which must be deep rooted in young minds. In our school, we observe Kargil Day in commemoration of the heroic deeds of our soldiers and to kindle the patriotic feelings in students and to make them good, law abiding Samaritans. We also conduct contests like Inter House Patriotic songs and skits to arouse the feeling of oneness and patriotism.
Pujya Gurudev’s Aradhana Day
Pujya Gurudev’s Aradhana Day is celebrated on 3rd August. On this day paduka pooja is performed. Bhajans are sung. All the teachers and students participate in the pooja.
Fund Raising Carnival
Fund Raising Carnival is organized in the school premises where all the clubs and students put up various stalls. Along with stalls students try all novel methods and leave no stones unturned to sell their wares to make huge profits as the collected money is contributed for charity.
To prove our students are proficient in all spheres, Sports Day is celebrated and competed by our students.
Teachers' Day is celebrated at Pon Vidya Mandir where the School Prefect Board organizes various programmes on that day in honour of the teachers.
To spark one's imagination about Science and to kindle the spirit of Science in the children, Science day is being celebrated. The Science Exhibition ‘Carnival of Eureka’ in which the students exhibit new concepts with working models is organized in a big way.
Children are budding scientists and our aim is to ignite their minds, to promote scientific temper, our school organizes carnival of eureka to bring out the latent talent and bringing out the curiosity of the child. Here we give opportunity to the child to explore the scientific world.
YOUNG CREATORS’ DAY
Young Creators’ Day for the students of LKG to grade V is celebrated in the month of January every academic year. On this day the young tender children present the concepts learnt in their curriculum in various forms like recitation, skit, chart display, narration, role play and demonstration. Parents and guests are invited to witness the presentation.
Our children are inspired by exposing themselves to child prodigies to show that age is no bar for achievement. We also instill the never die and never give up spirit by associating with great people.
On this day teachers of Pon Vidya Mandir present a variety of events to entertain the children.
The most eagerly awaited event, both by parents and children is the Annual Day. This day is more special due to our school philosophy of “Every Child On The Stage”.
The prestigious annual SKMSA (Smt. Kannammal Memorial Sports Academy) Tournament on sports is organized in the school campus every year in the month of January. Enthusiastic participants from various private and government schools in the district take part in the tournament. Attractive prizes are distributed to the victorious players.
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
To understand the nuances of various subjects, various clubs have been organized like Heritage Club, Quiz Club, Sports Club, Tamil Club, National Green Corps, Health Club. Each club has its own agenda of promoting competitions on their subject.
Language is the source of communication. It is the way through which we share our ideas and thoughts with others. To cherish the literature rich English and motivate students learn effective English, English Day is celebrated.
To honour one of the world’s most ancient languages, Tamil, our regional language, Tamil Day is being celebrated to offer a glimpse of the Tamil literature and poetry.
Hindi being our national language, we celebrate Hindi Diwas with due importance with the students propagating the importance of Hindi in the form of speech, skit, songs etc.
Math is omnipotent be it finding solutions for anything and everything in life or solving problems in academics. To make the students develop a flair for the subject, Math Day is celebrated.
Culture and Heritage Club
To promote the religious tolerance various festivals are celebrated. Traditional festivals like Navarathri and Pongal are celebrated. To inculcate patriotism in young minds National Festivals are celebrated.
To exhume the talents in individuals, competitions are conducted for the students covering a spectrum of subjects and topics. To inculcate the team spirit among students and enhance their talent in working in teams, inter house competitions are conducted. Students of Pon Vidya Mandir are provided ample opportunities to participate in interschool competitions and state level competitions.
To understand, co-relate and co-ordinate theoretical knowledge and practical reality, numerous field trips are organized for all age specific groups.
Workshops are organized for teachers for updation of recent trends in education and teaching/learning methodologies by experts in the education field. Students are also involved in workshops which require presence of children which also motivate them to formulate their path of success.
Periodic workshops are conducted for parents to constantly update them on subjects relating to their ward's studies and keep them informed of the various new opportunities prevalent.
To reinforce the knowledge of students and orient them in all aspects, a multitude of camps are organized.
Yoga is a practical, methodical, and systematic discipline with a goal of achieving good health, a calm mind, sincerity, and a burning desire to overcome imperfections.The students right from grade III are taught yoga by a team of Yoga experts.
Bala Vihar Classes
BalaVihar classes are being conducted in the campus by erudite members of Chinmaya Mission. The students are taught moral and traditional values which are needed to be imbibed by them to lead a good structured life when they turn to adults. To capitalize these moral values, students from grade I onwards are trained in Bala Vihar classes.
Extra Currricular Activities
Pon Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School wishes to operate extracurricular activities as a pure learning process. Pon Vidya Mandir Sr. Sec. School offers the following programmes as extracurricular activities.
- Mental Mathematics (GMAS ABACUS)
Students have the freedom of choosing any one of the above mentioned extracurricular activities.

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Sports are imperative in any educational institution to have fine musculature and a supple body. Moreover, to develop a sound mind, a sound body is essential.
Growing children require regular physical exercises, games and sports, not only to enhance their vitality but also to develop team spirit and sportsmanship. Valour, courage and fortitude to face adversities in life are also inculcated through sports.
In Pon Vidya Mandir, ample opportunities are provided for students to be healthy physically. The school
has a vast playground, where not only games like football, cricket, volleyball, throwball, handball are
played but also games like Kho-Kho, athletic events like long jump, high jump, sprint events, field events
like shot put, discus, javelin, etc. are conducted.
Every year, on the Independence Day, sports day is conducted. Every child participates. From class V onwards the competitors from the four houses Agni, Vayu, Pirithvi and Akash give their best to get maximum points for their respective houses. In the school time table, regular games classes are given. The students learn team spirit which is a vital part of personality of a student. They learn how to be disciplined in their approach to a task on the field and off the field. The students also learn the various skills necessary for the game.
The students are given opportunities to participate in inter-school competitions, where the students get to see teams from other schools participate in events. This gives the students an opportunity to show case their talent.
